In the segment “Lamanglupa”, it gives us a new interpretation of a group of friends whose camping trip suddenly turns into a nightmare when they find themselves being relentlessly pursued by ferocious creatures. For some who doesn’t have a clue what a lamanglupa is.. Lamang Lupa is a Filipino term for a mythical creature that lives under the earth. They are like dieties and they are known to play with human beings with their supernatural powers. They are blood-thirsty monsters who kills and devours.

In the segment “Ukay-Ukay”, the story is about a woman who has been waiting for her ideal wedding until she found a mysterious vintage gown that she got fixated on it. She didn’t have a clue that the wedding gown was evil passed by a demented bride way back in 1948. And then her designer friend, Basti, got killed.

I enjoyed the characters over the top lines. Like, when Basti said “Fashion designer ako! Gown Ka Lang!” This segment was full of hilarious details making almost every moment worth it.

In the segment, “Ang Diablo”, the story is about a young doctor-intern, Maja Salvador, who works in a provincial hospital. She encountered a patient who is suspected to be carrying a deadly flu virus. But the girl claims that it is a demonic spirit residing in her frail body. The girl later kills herself but makes sure that the demon inside her had been transmitted to the doctor. Until, she finds herself being haunted by demonic visions.

The cast include Shaina Magdayao, Jake Cuenca, Maja Salvador, and Geoff Eigenmann.

Anna (Shaina) and her ex-boyfriend Alex (Jake) head out for Villa Estrella, an old resort owned by Anna’s family. Alex tries to restore the resort in the following days. The task was unlikely to be accomplished because of the spirits roaming the grounds. These are not harmless spirits but rather they prey on human beings. But why you might ask? It is better to find out when you watch the film for yourself. You’ll know the reason behind Anna’s reoccurring nightmares.

The storyline behind the movie is very good and well written. Usually horror movies tend to focus on special effects, it’s good to find a movie that makes sense. I also applaud Shaina and Maja for performing competently on film. It is apparant that they are both ready for new challenges. It was interesting to see Jake and Geoff do a horror movie, but it seems that horror movies are not their forte. Nonetheless, I would still recommend the movie because it was interesting and it had a filipino flavor that other movies don’t have. Villa Estrella might not be haunted in real life. It is really a resort in La Union. But the movie made me believe that there is a such thing as spirits.
